Plymouth bomb cordon extended to 300m as thousands evacuated from homes

Thousands of people have been evacuated from their homes this morning, as a major incident has been escalated after a WWII bomb was found in the Keyham area earlier this week. Following advice from the Army, the current 200m cordon will be extended to 300m as of 9am today (Thursday, February 22) to allow ordnance disposal experts to work on the unexploded device.

It is believed that the extended cordon will likely be in place for at least 36 hours. Residents affected by the cordon are encouraged to stay with family and friends for the upcoming days where possible.

The Plymouth Life Centre was opened at 7am this morning to offer support evacuees with finding accommodation. Anyone who is unable to evacuate or those who may need additional help and support, please call: 01752 668000.
