We’ve talked about the Corvette and the Z06 a couple times in the last few months and as we get closer to summer the Z06 release gets closer and closer

And of course as things get closer to release, the more real world testing has to happen which means spy shots, leaks, etc.

HOWEVER when i saw on allcarnews that we have power figures for, not just the Z06, but the Zr1 and Zora I damn near leapt out of bed

So this is what’s goin on

The base engine we’ve had for the past 2 years is the LT2 cross plane 6.2 N/A v8
Makes just under 500 hp and in itself stands up to some of the elites from Europe
Something that no previous corvette has been able to do (balance)

Then we have the Z06, the track spec one and no truer has that description been than right now
Same 5.5 FPC N/A v8 from the GTLM C8R racecar - LT6
650 hp and 600 lbft (same as C7 Z06) revs to 9000

Then there’s the ZR1 the, for lack of a better description Hellcat spec vette
Takes that high revving 5.5 fpc v8 and slaps 2 turbos on to make the LT7
850 hp and 825 lbft - wow

And now for the first time ever, we’re getting something even crazier because batteries
Lt7 ttv8 5.5 - take that 850 hp, add electric hybrid assist
1000 hp and 975 lbft

Hold on now, let’s zoom out - these are stupid power numbers and the corvette isn’t a stupid car. It’s a serious interantional weapon that commands respect on any coast

So how do you get people to take 1000 hp from the factory seriously?
Massive rubber
Magnetic damping
Active aero
And most of all - AWD

In the same generation that dares to break tradition and move the engine to the middle, it also dares to add AWD. a historical sin in american motoring heritage

But if you want the world to take you seriously, you cant show up to the track losing your rear end everytime you go near the throttle

But lets cool down by talking about the Grand Sport, which was rumored to have died off in place of the e-ray a fully electric corvette.

The grand sport will take the same LT2 cpc 6.2 n/a v8 as the base car and add the hybrid system from the Zr1 adding 100 hp to 600 hp and 500 lbft

I think that torque figure is low considering it’s only 30lbft more than stock, but who knows

And then there’s the eray which will be full EV and is quite a ways off, but dont be surprised if you see a concept rolling around and kicking up buzz in the next year or 2.

Each trim will get unique goodies like aero, suspension tweak, and more

Seeing this news makes me think about Lexus of all brands and not in terms of performance, but in terms of manufacturers know the era of ICE performance is coming to a close and rather than fizzling out they’re wanting to go out with a bang.

Lexus F cars will pack a TT v8 good for 600 hp an the Corvette looks like its just getting started.
