This is DHARAVI The World's Largest Slum!

Dharavi is one of the largest slums on the planet. Located in the heart of Mumbai, India, it is famous for being one of the most densely populated places on Earth. It is estimated that between 700,000 and 1 million people live within an area of just about 2.1 square kilometers. This means the population density can reach a staggering 330,000 to 480,000 people per square kilometer.

Dharavi began to grow in the 19th century when a massive wave of immigrants moved to Mumbai in search of work. Over time, the area evolved into a massive community hub hosting a wide variety of small-scale industries.

Many homes in Dharavi are built from basic materials like bricks, wood, and corrugated metal sheets. These structures are often packed tightly together and lack adequate access to essential services like clean water and proper sanitation. Residents frequently share facilities such as public restrooms.
Infrastructure in Dharavi is extremely limited. Narrow and winding alleys make transportation difficult while open sewers are a common sight, posing significant health risks. The combination of extreme overcrowding and poor sanitation leads to many health issues in Dharavi, including infectious diseases and digestive ailments.
