From a business owner standpoint, diversity, inclusion and equity are becoming increasingly important for the purposes of long-term growth. In order to produce what’s essential for a wider range of customers, the diversity of your team is where it begins — in ethnicity, experience and thought. Diverse teams not only perform better, they also allow the company to recognize unique issues that need to be addressed for overall improvement. In order to combat unconscious biases and assumptions about people and situations, Ashten says it’s time for small business owners to step out of their typical hiring boxes and comfort zones to expand their business into new networks.
