what i would tell my inner child
Hello! Long time no see. ☺
The last video I posted was when I was a freshman at RISD and now I'm a junior! I hope you enjoy my most recent project in graphic design.
This is a very personally significant video for me, as I hoped to capture some difficult lessons I've learned in a way that would be helpful to others. Our assignment was to create a short video using motion, typography, and sound.
The creative direction was inspired by my favorite music artist, Porter Robinson. I was also inspired by one of my favorite movies, "Kimi no Na wa," in which the period of twilight serves as the threshold between night and day, and between two people from different times that enables them to communicate with each other. I explore the concept in psychology of the inner child, and how healing from trauma often involves merging your present self and your inner child. This film serves as a brief, surreal portal of time in which I can speak with mine. The opportunity to inform our past selves of the wisdom we have now is one we all dream of, and I wanted to share my interpretation.
On a personal note, I have been struggling with depression, anxiety, and perfectionism for the past decade. I endured my loneliness but there were many days it hurt so much, I didn't want to live anymore. After years of hard work, therapy, and healing, I feel human again. These lines have been repeating in my head for the past few months: I love and have loved many people. But I also love myself. And sometimes, those two don’t go together and that’s okay.
I can't possibly encapsulate everything in just a few sentences but it's been such a profoundly rewarding and beautiful experience to finally feel like I have joy in my life.
I'm so deeply grateful for the people around me who have accepted me and love me as I am. 💜
