Marty McCall & Fireworks - Let Me Be The One (lyrics)

2nd track from "Up" (1981). It seems like pesky ol' materialism—"the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life"—is always tripping people up. So here Marty reminds us that none of that stuff is going to last. He's found something much better and wants to be the one to tell you. And I say, let him! Because, not only is he right about what he says, but the way he says it is awesome. And I'm not just talking about those powerful pipes of his. From the slappin' bass intro to the wicked—er, I mean righteous—saxophone solo, this is one sweet and funky tune!

Btw, if you're one to read the fine print, you'll recognize Marty's name from the my last two uploads—Boz Scagg's Lowdown and Amy Holland's How Do I Survive—in addition to appearing in the credits of a plethora of other artists. In a career spanning four decades, whether backing up Christopher Cross, Amy Grant, or Bill Withers, or singing the lead in Oklahoma, or recording a jingle for Chick-fil-A, he's been one busy and much sought after artist (ditto for his first-rate, studio backing vocal group First Call).

"...I've found a deep fulfillment in doing concerts that are both highly entertaining and at the same time an honest and personal sharing of the things I'm learning in my life with Christ. On that day in '68 when I gave my life to Him, everything changed dramatically in terms of Eternity. The years since then have seen Jesus carefully teaching me and bringing me along in my faith. It's been a gradual climbing process, like a gently rising kite. And I used to be real heavy about it, but lately I've felt a lot more joyful and up. I think that's reflected in our music now. Rock and pop music are such great media for the gospel, because they can be so full of the energy and excitement that Christ brings to our lives."

~Marty McCall, in the liner notes to Up
