The pre-schooler was found in a bedroom "alive, well and smiling" when police forced down a door of a home overnight in the town of Carnarvon, about 900 kilometres north of Perth.

The house where Cleo was found, which is owned by the state housing commission, was just minutes from where she lived with her family.
