Honda CIVIC TYPE R '08 - GT6 Civic Driving Comparison ep.6
Honda CIVIC TYPE R '08
In game description:
"The 4-door Type R making a return with a high-strength body."
The Honda Civic Type R became an icon in the compact-car scene, as it was hailed as one of the best handling FF (Front engine, Front drive) cars in the world. Its legend only grew when the car was discontinued in 2005; however, Honda resurrected the model two years later in March 2007. The Japan-market car, dubbed in-house as ABA-FD2, was available only in sedan form, and it was also notable that this was the first time that a 4-door Type R had been available since 2001.
The body of the new car was said to be 50 percent more rigid when compared to the past Integra Type R. Under the hood was the same 2.0-liter DOHC inline-4 with i-VTEC variable valve timing. But thanks to breathing improvements, as well as an increase in compression ratio, the overall performance of the high-revving power plant had improved drastically, producing 222 HP/8000 rpm and 158.4 ft-lb at 6100.
The transmission matched to this engine was a special short-throw 6-speed manual with close-ratio gears. The suspension system incorporated MacPherson struts up front and double wishbones at rear. Stopping power came via aluminum 4-piston calipers developed in conjunction with Brembo.
Despite possessing two more doors than most performance compact cars in the world, the Honda Civic Type R, with its fine tuned suspension, excellent tractability and an engine start button on the dash, was virtually race ready and arguably the fastest compact sedan on the road.
