Status symbol aside, platinum is one of the strongest metals in the world, making it a solid choice for everyday wear because of the amount of abuse it can withstand.

— It's a favorite among watch buyers due to it's noticeably whiter color when compared to stainless steel, which tends to have a blue cast to it.

— Platinum requires very little upkeep. White gold, for instance, is plated with rhodium to achieve it's white color (without it, it's not that white, it's more of a champagne color), while platinum requires no plating at all, just some polishing to give it back it's shine.

— It's safer for the allergy stricken, as only platinum composed of 90-95% platinum metal can be truly dubbed "Platinum," otherwise it'll be referred to as Platinum Alloy.

— The amount of platinum in a watch or any other piece of jewelry will always be the same. No amount of the metal is ever lost, however it may need to be remodeled over time. With white gold on the other hand, it'll can chip and wear away with time. Due to every scratch and bump, white gold won't maintain the same thickness, as some of the metal is reduced with wear. Whereas with platinum, it disperses.
