In this video, I walk you through how to create a subdomain in SiteGround using their new client area. Whether you want to have a WordPress website on a subdomain or you want to store files that can be linked to from your main domain's content, the new interface makes it quick and easy to set up.

► Why you may want to create a subdomain
You want to have a WordPress blog for your e-commerce website or vice versa. Many people start off with a personal blog that becomes a business and they have products or services they want to sell. You can set up a "store" subdomain and do e-commerce transactions using the WordPress WooCommerce plugin or some other platform.

You may be bilingual and want two versions of your website where your main website can be in one language and the subdomain can be in the second language. This gives both types of visitors the same experience in the language they are comfortable reading.

Or you may want to simply use the subdomain to store certain types of files so you can create specialized URLs to share or link to from your main content. These files can be anything from images, videos, documents, etc. You can create a subdomain named "media" or whatever to distinguish it from your main website.

In this tutorial, I actually walk you through installing a separate instance of WordPress that stands alone from your main website. The process is the same if you are interested in installing WordPress with WooCommmerce.

I also show you how you can access the file manager so you can create folders and upload files to your new subdomain that can be linked-to in other places on your main website.

Then lastly, we'll need to make sure the new subdomain is secured with an SSL certificate. So I'll take you through the process of protecting the connections visitors make to your website.
