Diagnosing the Climate Movement

While Zain and I have chosen to live with the consequences of our non-violent convictions to stop old-growth logging in British Columbia, other people in the so-called climate movement have moved onto unrelated causes that are increasingly politicized.

This means that the old-growth forests in British Columbia will be forever destroyed, and that the existing leaders in the climate movement have been co-opted by ideology and bitterness, or else swept up by the newest populist cause. This does not spell success or integrity.

For success and integrity, we need to address our cultural problems within; we need to be able to tolerate political differences and work towards an objective, concrete goal/s; we need to engage in good-faith partnerships and dialogue with those we may disagree with or those castigated as 'others' -- including politicians and the wealthy! This is a simple fix, though not always easy...

I believe that these changes can and will happen if we embrace humility, discomfort, and stick to the truth.
