Awesome Weathered HO Scale Model Railroad: Saint-Hilaire Railway Station in the Belgian Ardennes

The Maerklin model railroad layout, which was built by Steven Deruytter and the members of the Belgian model railroading club “Modelspoor Atelier Oostkamp”, depicts the historic railway station of Saint-Hilaire, which is located somewhere in the Belgian Ardennes. The model railway layout in HO scale is about four meters long and has been specially designed for model train exhibitions.

Patination of buildings and weathering of rail vehicles as well as the absolutely filigree miniature landscape with realistic-looking trees, bushes and grasses immediately catch the eye.

On the left section of the model rail layout (approximately one meter wide), model trains leave the fiddle yard and cross a beautifully designed stone bridge that leads into a tunnel portal. After the tunnel, the trains enter the right section of the model train layout (about three meters wide), which represents the railway station and the small village of Saint-Hilaire.

Leaving the tunnel trains are crossing a steeply sloping viaduct and then they pass a row of houses to reach the village and its railway station. The old station building with its platform is the focal point of the model railroad layout. The single-track railway line continues from the station to the right side of the model railway layout to another tunnel portal, into which the model trains enter to reach the fiddle yard, which is located behind the landscape.
