The Scream by Edvard Munch Step by Step Acrylic Painting on Canvas for Beginners

In this video, we're gonna get together and learn how to paint Edvard Munch's The Scream. We'll be using matte medium to improve blending, and we're going to spend a bit of time playing with shadows and highlights on his face. We'll also be spending a little bit of time talking about the composition of this painting.

This lesson is probably slightly more intermediate than some of my others. But I try to break it down simple enough that the absolute beginner can feel comfortable trying!

I’m painting on a 12x16-inch stretched canvas, but you can paint on any type and size of canvas you like.

I used:
• A 1-inch flat brush
• A 1/2-inch angle brush
• 1/4-inch flat brush
• Slightly smaller flat brush
• A small detail/liner brush
• A piece of chalk

I’m using Liquitex Basics acrylic paint in the following colors:
• Raw Seinna
• Cadmium Orange Hue
• Primary Yellow
• Titanium White
• Burnt Umber
• Cerulean Blue
• Mars Black
But you can use any colors you like.
