The Type 3 is both odd and fantastic and it engages with physics like no watch before. Its floating display is extraordinarily modern and it's so legible, you'll question if you ever needed glasses in the first place. The world of horology has given us a general format of how watches should look and function and innovation in this industry is by no means a common occurrence. Oil is incredibly buoyant, which means that its force is greater than the force of gravity. Because of this, whatever is suspended in it accelerates upwards. When it comes to the Type 3 watch, that's precisely why the entire dial looks so incredibly defined. It's also why, at first glance, many assume this is a digital watch. (Ha-Ha. Fooled you.) By exploiting oil's buoyancy, the watch dial is being pushed against the surface of the crystal. The dial is on the cusp.

The watch also utilizes magnets to rotate discs in the oil filled capsule to demonstrate time, day, date, as well as internal temperature. It even has a pressure valve to ensure thermoregulation of the oil itself.

In 2013, the Ressence Type 3 was awarded the Horological Revelation Prize at the Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Genève.
