Interview with Aike Visbeek - TCL Leadership Bytes

Aike Visbeek was brought up with bikes from early on, being the son of a Dutch bicycle-shop-owner. Today Aike is recognised as one of the most promising Sport Directors in international cycling​, with the 2017 Giro d’Italia overall win being his absolute highlight while serving as DS for Team Sunweb. In 2020 he became Academy Director of SEG Racing, one of the most highly respected Cycling Talent development teams worldwide.

Aike raced at amateur level and won the amateur classic “Dr Foots Race” but knee problems ended his active cycling-career even before it really took off. After ending his competitive cycling career, Aike started to make his way up as Sport Director for several Swedish Cycling Teams. In 2013 he became D.S. for World Tour Team Sunweb, and was the decision-maker in the 100th Giro D’Italia with Tom Dumolin winning the overall in 2017.

Today Aike holds a Masters degree in coaching from the Johan Cruyff Institute and lives with his wife and 4 kids in Bålsta, Uppsala County, Sweden. According to Aike, clear goalsetting, open-minded collaboration and factual observation with a helicopter view are the base-ingredients for authentic leadership.
