In this video, we talk about some of the tools you'll need to set your sag. We also give a brief overview how to properly set your sag on your bike.
The reason that I'm recommending to stand up while tagging the sag adjustment is that it's a repeatable measurement. I think it's more accurate that sitting down on the seat, because it's hard to sit in the same place every time. If you follow the principles outlined here, you'll get things close and then you can fine tune to your liking.
Make sure to confirm you have the correct spring on the bike for your weight. Most of these bikes come with springs designed for folks that are between 155-180 lbs without gear on. If you weigh more than this, you will need to outfit the bike with a heavier spring. If you are a lighter rider, you will need a lighter spring to active the correct amount of sag and pre-load on that shock. This will make a HUGE difference in the handling characteristics of the bike. Trust me :)
