Mac mini M4 Game Dev Benchmark Unity HDRP FPS vs Unreal Engine

*Mac mini M4 Game Dev Benchmark Unity HDRP FPS vs Unreal Engine*

In this video I benchmark Unity on the base model Mac mini M4 with sixteen gigabytes of unified memory and a five hundred twelve gigabyte internal SSD. No CPU upgrade. No GPU upgrade. No extra memory. Same machine as my previous Unreal Engine benchmark, so we can compare Unity results against that Unreal baseline.

This is a real world workflow test, not a synthetic benchmark. I measure first time load, editor readiness, background compilation behavior, memory usage, and real gameplay smoothness.

*What you will see in this video*
- Unity First Person Shooter sample first load time and play test performance
- Unity High Definition sample project load process including shader compilation time
- Activity Monitor memory usage and memory pressure during loads and gameplay
- Frame rate behavior in both Unity projects, including heavier views
- Direct comparison to my previous Unreal Engine benchmark on the same Mac mini
- Honest takeaways about what this base model can realistically handle for game development

*Test notes and context*
- First launch is always the slowest. After the initial boot, subsequent launches can be significantly faster.
- During the Unity FPS first load, I had extra apps open including OBS for recording and I forgot to close my browser. I mention this in the video so you understand why memory usage is higher in that segment.
- For the Unity High Definition sample run, I closed the browser first for cleaner baseline numbers.
- Unreal Engine results shown in the comparison section are from my previous benchmark video on this channel using the same base model Mac mini.

If you want me to benchmark a specific project or workflow on this machine, leave it in the comments. Also tell me which engine you think fits this hardware better for your type of work.
