Alvin York was a pacifist. He requested a discharge for religious reasons. It was denied. In 1918, his platoon of 17 men was surrounded. The sergeant died. The corporal died. York took over alone.

With only a rifle and a pistol, he killed 25 Germans and captured 132 alone. He returned a hero. He said: "I only did what anyone would do." Except that's not true. Not just anyone.
