Biblioteca, Archivo y Documentación del Museo Nacional del Prado.
El Área de Biblioteca, Documentación y Archivo del Museo Nacional del Prado se encuentra situada en el Casón del Buen Retiro. Su sala de lectura, que abrió sus puertas el 9 de marzo de 2009, se halla en el antiguo Salón de Embajadores, debajo de la espléndida bóveda pintada por el napolitano Luca Giordano hacia 1697.
En esta sala de lectura pueden consultarse los fondos de biblioteca (más de 70.000 libros y 1.000 títulos de revistas especializados en arte occidental entre la Edad Media y el siglo XIX), del Archivo (más de 3.000 cajas con la historia del Museo y sus colecciones) y del Servicio de Documentación (con abundante información sobre las más de 25.000 obras de arte de la colección del Museo). Se ofrece también acceso a otras fuentes relativas a la historia de arte, como recursos electrónicos, fototecas como la Witt Library, etc, así como una importante colección de libros antiguos.
LIBRARY, DOCUMENTATION AND ARCHIVE
The Library, Documentation and Archive Department of the Museo del Prado is situated in the Casón del Buen Retiro. The Reading Room, which opened to the users on March 9, 2009, is located in the Ambassadors Ballroom, under the splendid dome painted by the Neapolitan Luca Giordano circa 1697.
The Reading Room may be used to consult the holdings of the Library, which contains more than 70.000 monographs and 1.000 titles of periodicals on occidental art from Middle Ages to 19th century; the Archive, with more than 3.000 boxes containing the History of the Museum and its collections, and the Documentation Service, with a wide range of information on the works of art of the Museum Collection. Also, other sources related to History of Art such as electronic services, music library and the Witt Library and an important collection of antique books, are available for consultation in the Reading Room.
