Pop Crimes: The Songs of Rowland S Howard - Dead Radio (Johnny Standish) Live
Ten years after the release of his final album, pay tribute to the legacy of visionary musician Rowland S Howard at a performance featuring former bandmates and special guests.
A vital presence on Australia’s post-punk scene, Howard created his own emotionally intense sonic language in projects including the Young Charlatans, The Birthday Party with Nick Cave, Crime & the City Solution and These Immortal Souls.
Original members of Howard’s bands and other key collaborators from throughout his 34-year career come together for an electrifying evening.
The performance features former bandmates Mick Harvey, JP Shilo, Harry Howard and Genevieve McGuckin, with Conrad Standish replacing Brian Hooper on bass. Special guests include Bobby Gillespie, HTRK’s Jonnine Standish, Lydia Lunch and more to be announced.
In 1977, at the age of 16, Howard wrote the enduring hit ‘Shivers’. By the time of his death in 2009, he had stacked up countless notable collaborations as well as two powerful solo albums and left us with a blazing legacy.
October 2019 would have marked Howard’s 60th birthday, 40 years since his musical debut and 20 years since his debut solo album Teenage Snuff Film.
In honour of these milestones, both Pop Crimes and Teenage Snuff Film are being re-released worldwide.
First performed in Melbourne in 2011, the show Pop Crimes was reprised at All Tomorrow’s Parties in 2013 and in two shows at Melbourne Festival 2014 to mark the five-year anniversary of his death.
"Rowland was Australia’s most unique, gifted and uncompromising guitarist."
