The Joker has escaped from forensic psychiatric care at Arkham Asylum, and has begun conducting an experiment that requires a human test subject. The Joker - now more demonic and twisted than ever before - wants to prove that all of humanity can become just as crazy as he is, after just one bad day.
After finding his test subject, he's ready to prove his discovery - and only his long-lasting archnemesis the Batman is invited to watch the events unfold.

"Batman: The Killing Joke" is an iconic, groundbreaking one-shot comic that was released in 1988 by DC Comics, written by Alan Moore, and illustrated by Brian Bolland. Originally colored by John Higgins with an eye-catching, psychedelic palette, and later editions by Brian Bolland, which features a more subdued, realistic palette.

Many critics consider the graphic novel to be the definitive Joker story, and one of the best Batman stories ever published. The comic won the Eisner Award for "Best Graphic Album" in 1989 and appeared on The New York Times Best Seller List in May 2009. In 2006, "The Killing Joke" was reprinted as part of the trade paperback DC Universe: The Stories of Alan Moore.
Elements of "The Killing Joke" have inspired or been incorporated into other aspects of Batman media.

"Alan Moore's Batman: The Killing Joke" is a fan audiobook of the story that inspired Tim Burton's "Batman" (1989) starring Michael Keaton and Jack Nicholson, and more recent Todd Phillips' "Joker" (2019) starring Joaquin Phoenix as the titular character.
