Exclusive data reveals a postcode lottery of enforcement against rogue traders, with homeowners finding there is very little legal recourse for compensation.

Amelia Harper met one family who were forced to live in their garage for a year after a botched loft conversion left them facing a £100,000 repair bill.

And a wheelchair user who had paid a builder £170,000 upfront, told her he was left homeless mid-renovation when the man claimed to have gone bust.
