Traditional Greek Wedding, Billy {+} Niki, St. George Greek Orthodox Church/Sheraton Uptown

We are so pleased to bring you our very first Greek Wedding Film of the most wonderful couple, Niki and Billy. Ohhh, how I love this culture and this couple!! Not only was I completely mesmerized by the many traditional dances ( I could watch those all day), but the mass amount of symbolism throughout the entire wedding day had me in awe. I began to wish I were Greek. The day began with one of Billy's groomsman delivering Niki's shoes to her on a silver platter surrounded by almonds (a symbol of fertility) and money being stuffed into her shoes until she attained the "perfect fit"...the more money, the better the fit (see why I would like to be Greek). Billy had some traditions of his own. His mother poured a cup of wine, in which he took three sips of and then threw the cup behind him breaking it and walking away without turning back. This symbolized the leaving of his parents and the joining of his wife. The crowning ceremony joined the couple and established them as the King and Queen of their home. The exchanging of rings, which is switched back and forth three times, signifies that in married life, the weakness of one partner will be compensated by the strength of the other. By themselves, the newly betrothed are incomplete, but together they are made perfect (I love this!). The Koumpari, is the ceremonial walk where the couple walks around a table three times, taking their first steps as husband and wife. I could go on and on as there is so much more. Definitely a wedding to blog about! To the happy couple, I want to thank you both for being so gracious to us! You made the filming of this event, perfect in every way. We were so pleased to share this moment with you, your friends and your family. We especially loved the McDonald's cheeseburger ending. What a way to end the day!! Cheers to you both, we wish you a lifetime of happiness together!
