Unusually heavy snowfall continues to batter large parts of Japan, claiming at least 30 lives over the past two weeks. Authorities have deployed Japan Self-Defence Forces to Aomori Prefecture, the worst-hit region, to help clear roads and assist stranded residents. Remote areas remain buried under up to 4.5 metres of snow, with visuals showing homes, vehicles and fields completely engulfed as rescue operations intensify.
