Sustainable Green Fuel Enterprise (SGFE) produces environmental friendly char-briquettes in Cambodia

Sustainable Green Fuel Enterprise (SGFE) produces environmental friendly char-briquettes in Cambodia.

SGFE is a social business, providing jobs with fair working conditions to our workers which we hire within the poorest communities in Phnom Penh, in the suburb of Stung Meanchey around the old Phnom Penh municipal dumpsite. Working with us and having a stabile job (and income) enables them to send their children to school (to PSE a French NGO offering professional training to the children in Stung Meanchey www.pse.asso.fr), since they don't need their children to support them anymore in their previous waste pickers daily activity.
In addition, we provide Cambodians with an environmental friendly and healthier charcoal. Cambodia has one of the highest deforestation rates in the world, deriving from illegal deforestation. A great part of it derives from the illegal logging for the charcoal production. Only the city of Phnom Penh uses over 100,000 tons of charcoal per year. GERES (www.geres.eu), a French NGO working in Cambodia, has developed in a project our innovative technology to produce environmental charcoal, produced with recycled biomass (coconut shells and other urban organic waste), reducing deforestation in Cambodia and mitigating climate change: today 1kg of SGFE's environmental charcoal saves 6.6kg of wood from Cambodian forests!

In addition, our charcoal, sold at the same price or in some cases even at a lower price than traditional charcoal, is a better quality and more user friendly product. Compared to traditional (illegal) charcoal, our product has the following advantages:
- it has a higher fixed carbon content, producing more heat and burning longer time; therefore it also reduces the household's charcoal consumption by approx. 25%.
- it makes no smoke and therefore it is healthier to use indoor; it has lower volatile matter which causes lung/respiratory diseases widely diffused in Cambodia.
- it makes no sparks and therefore it is safer to use indoor; domestic fires caused by sparks coming from charcoal during cooking is a daily major issue in Phnom Penh.
- it leaves your pots and pans clean, since it doesn't make any smoke.
- it is easy to use, coming already cut in small pieces perfectly adapted to the traditional Cambodian cooking stoves.

Our main products are:
