Red Bull Cobra – Restored Bell AH-1F at Frecce Tricolori 65th Anniversary

The legendary Bell AH-1F Cobra — the world’s first dedicated attack helicopter — returned to the skies over Rivolto during the 65th Anniversary celebration of Italy’s Frecce Tricolori.
This particular helicopter, owned and operated by the Flying Bulls and sponsored by Red Bull, is a fully restored demilitarized version of the AH-1F, originally built in 1967.

Powered by a Lycoming T53-L-703 turboshaft engine delivering around 1,800 horsepower, the Cobra reaches cruise speeds of 150 knots (275 km/h) and a top speed close to 190 knots (350 km/h).
Its distinctive two-bladed rotor system and sleek fuselage make it instantly recognizable, while also demanding precision handling due to the aerodynamic limits of its rotor design.

The aircraft weighs approximately 2,990 kg empty and can reach a maximum take-off weight of 4,535 kg. Although it now flies without weapons, it still carries dummy gun pods and rocket launchers for historical authenticity during air displays.

Restored to airworthy condition by a passionate technical team in Salzburg, Austria, the Red Bull Cobra represents the perfect fusion of aviation heritage and modern showmanship.
