Half-handed Cloud - Unusual Animals split 7" with Ariel Pink [2008]

When Asthmatic Kitty Records' former label manager, Michael Kaufmann, asked me to contribute Half-handed Cloud music to their "Unusual Animals" split vinyl series, he suggested Animal Collective (whose work I'm not really familiar with) to fill the other side, but I was more interested in seeing if we could get their Paw Tracks label mates Ariel Pink on Side B. Mike knew Ariel's manager, and Ariel agreed. It was commissioned in 2006, recorded in 2007, and released in May 2008 (10 years ago this month).

The song that I made for the Half-handed Cloud side was titled "Sewing Wind To Fabric," recorded on a 4-track cassette, with vocals and instruments (pump organ, etc) by myself, + Nedelle Torrisi on violin (she later sang with Ariel Pink, among others), and the late Bert Hiscock on cello.

Jared Chapman (http://www.jaredchapman.com) did the artwork for all the Asthmatic Kitty Unusual Animals split-release series (https://www.discogs.com/label/472043-Unusual-Animals). I got the feeling that the main reason Ariel Pink agreed to do the split-7" was because he liked that the animal on the Half-h split was a Blue-footed Booby. Who wouldn't?

This song was eventually collected along with 45 more songs on Half-handed Cloud's first non-LP B-side collection, "Cut Me Down & Count My Rings," which came out in 2009 (also on AKR). Listen here, but the "Cut Me Down..." physical release is even better (poster and liner notes!):
