From the Vault: Barack Obama's 2004 DNC Speech

Ten years ago this week, a Democratic Senate candidate named Barack Obama burst onto the national scene when he delivered the keynote address at the 2004 Democratic National Convention. On Washington Week, The Washington Post's David Broder, Time's Michael Duffy and the Boston Globe's Nina Easton discussed Obama's fiery speech. "A star is born," Duffy said on July 30, 2004. At the DNC four years later, Obama was nominated by his party as its presidential candidate, and 2004 Democratic nominee John Kerry would eventually become secretary of State under Obama.
