Without Fear | Masai Mara, Kenya 2017
This film is a documentary of our journey in the Mara! It starts with a traditional Maasai song by a Maasai Warrior. Hope you enjoy it!
Maasai Mara means spotted landscape in Maasai language, which is apt to describe the 'spots' formed by trees, shadows formed by clouds and savannah that mark the area. During the great migration, it also gets spotted with Wildebeest. Wildebeest, a species of antelopes, are nomadic creatures who migrate from Serengeti to Maasai Mara & then back again! While crossing the Mara river, they are hunted by the crocodiles who are waiting for them in the river. They come in search of greener pastures and face the difficult choice of crossing the river for survival. Called 'The Serengeti migration' it is the longest & largest over-land migration in the world.
We also met a group of 5 cheetahs having lunch (eating wildebeest who migrated from Serengeti ). At any point of time there was always at least one of them who kept a lookout, mostly for hyenas! Sad fact: Asiatic Cheetahs got extinct from India in the mid 20th century.
And of course, we did see the king and queen of the jungle laze around while daring us to come closer!
Maasai Warriors have a strange tradition, they jump! The guy who jumps the highest gets the girl! The higher & more graceful the jump, the more appeal the warrior has to young women. And believe me not, but they can jump high! This tradition has become a tourist favourite when they go to visit the Maasai village. They can be recognised by the special red cloth they wear which is called a Shuka. They have a semi-nomadic lifestyle, very close to the 'Van Gujjar' tribe in India, surviving off their cattle.
