“Had no clue… but his exit was a blessing in disguise for me”: Ganguly on Sidhu-Azhar rift

Former India captain Sourav Ganguly has opened up on Navjot Singh Sidhu’s controversial exit during the 1996 England tour, revealing he had “no idea” about the reported fallout with skipper Mohammad Azharuddin.

In an exclusive interview with PTI CEO and Editor-in-Chief Vijay Joshi, Ganguly says, “If Sidhu had stayed, I probably wouldn’t have become captain in 1999-2000. It turned out to be a blessing in disguise.”

Sidhu’s abrupt departure changed the team’s trajectory and paved the way for a new era led by Ganguly.
