Highlights: Penguins @ Capitals: Game 5 2009 Playoffs
No Gonchar? No problem!
I apologize for lame first period highlights. With the back-to-back games and me only getting about 3 hours of sleep, I was feeling pretty sleepy at game-time tonight. Then my computer crapped itself and I missed recording nearly the whole first period. I just grabbed them from the "What you've missed" in the 2nd intermission. Thankfully didn't miss any goals.
Anyway, back to the game, actually it appeared to be quite a bit of a problem not having Gonchar through 2 periods. The Pens took a too many men on the ice because of all the D-men rotation they had going on. Cost a goal. The PP the Pens had early, meanwhile, looked terrible. Looked like Gogo and Letang weren't used to lugging it up the ice.
However, the Pens 3rd line more than made up for it. Staal finally buries one, and a give and go with Satan no less. Satan has shown he should stay in the lineup. Cooke gets a big hit on Ovechkin and scores a goal as well.
But the Caps weren't going away that easily. Ovechkin scores two goals, one with just a few minutes left in the 3rd.
Overtime again. Malkin draws a penalty, and finishes it off! GGGGEEEEEENNNNNOOOOO!!!!! MVP!!! MVP!!! MVP!!! MVP!!!
Will there be more crying over the calls? Probably. Ovechkin got 2 minutes for hurting our best offensive defenseman and powerplay leader, and the Pens STILL find a way to win rolling 7 on defense and just 11 on offense, so I don't really want to hear it.
Other things I noticed:
-Backstrom played a strong game. He was everywhere. Semen, however, had tons of shots but could not hit the net. What was he saying about Crosby early in the year?
-Seemed to be more Pens fans in the crowd this time. Looks like they've found ways around the techniques to keep them out. Good for them.
3-2. DO IT
