GoPro 8 vs GoPro 6, GoPro 7 & DJI Osmo Action (Sample Image/Video Quality Comparison Test)

Comparing the GoPro 8 with the previous generation of action cameras (GoPro 6, GoPro 7 & DJI Osmo Action) to see the differences in image and video quality. Hope you find this video helpful!

I personally expected the GoPro 8 to be significantly better than the GoPro 7 due to the increase in bit rate to 100mbps from 77mbps. The place the HERO 8 did shine over all the other cameras was the stabilization: HyperSmooth 2.0 does seem to do a noticeably better job in all of the handheld or moving clips. The Osmo Action continues to be a bit of a disappointment, especially in the photo area where DJI has failed to offer any sort of HDR or intelligent dynamic range capabilities.

METHOD:
I tried to frame up every shot as close to as possible with each action cam. All of the video clips were filmed in 4K resolution except for the 240fps slow-motion clip which was at 1080p. I didn’t use ProTune or manual controls (except for the last photo since the Osmo Action lacks a night photo mode). Everything was also with the standard "wide" FOV setting. The aim was to try and see how these cameras perform straight out of the box.
