Baku residents took to the streets on Tuesday to celebrate what they deem as 'victory' in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, a day after Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan signed a statement together with Azerbaijani and Russian leaders on a ceasefire in the disputed region.

Cars could be seen honking with people waving flags on Neftciler Prospekti, a busy street in the city centre.

PM Pashinyan announced on Monday evening the signing of an agreement with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, on the cessation of hostilities in Nagorno-Karabakh starting from 21:00 GMT on November 9, calling such a step the best solution for the current situation.

The agreement requires Russian peacekeepers to replace Armenia's army in the disputed region and for both the Armenian and Azerbaijani armies to stop at their currently occupied positions. The resolution comes after Azerbaijan captured the second-largest town in Nagorno-Karabakh.

Although PM Pashinyan said that the deal was 'not a victory, but there's no defeat,' protests broke out in Yerevan as soon as the ceasefire deal was announced.
