CHAOS at former Kenyan PM's public funeral as police start firing at crowds

Kenyan police on Thursday shot at mourners during a public viewing of former prime minister Raila Odinga, an influential political figure who died a day earlier in India.

Crowds filled a 60,000-seat football stadium in the capital after escorting the body on foot from the main airport, 18 miles (29 kilometres) away.

Tensions spiked when the crowd breached the presidential pavilion, prompting officers to deploy tear gas.

A stampede erupted at the stadium gates as mourners fled outside, while leaders present remained locked in a room.

An unknown number of people were injured in the crush.
