The Afternoon Tune takes on one of the most gloriously cheesy films of the 1980s — Masters of the Universe (1987)! Directed by Gary Goddard and produced by Cannon Films, this live-action He-Man adventure stars the mighty Dolph Lundgren as He-Man and the legendary Frank Langella as the skull-faced villain Skeletor — a role Langella has called one of his all-time favorites. When Skeletor seizes Castle Grayskull and captures the Sorceress, He-Man's only hope lies in a mysterious device called the Cosmic Key — which ends up stranded on Earth, found by two unsuspecting teenagers played by a young Courteney Cox and Robert Duncan McNeill. Cue fish-out-of-water chaos, intergalactic armies invading suburbia, and He-Man flexing his way across small-town America.
With a $22 million budget, a score by Bill Conti, and more shoulder pads than should be legally allowed, this cult classic is pure 80s excess — and we're here for every ridiculous second of it.
