Chimpanzee (lat. Pan) is a genus from the family of hominids of the primate order. It includes two species: the common chimpanzee (Pan troglodytes) and the pygmy chimpanzee (Pan paniscus), also known as bonobos. Both species are endangered on the IUCN Red List, and in 2017 the Convention on Migratory Species of Wild Animals selected the common chimpanzee for special protection.
