Louisiana passed legislation in March giving Republican Governor Jeff Landry more command over the state's public defense system.

District defenders in charge of indigent defense were told about possible pay cuts, reversal of raises and encouraged them to open private practices.

Plan also ties district defender pay to fees that clients must pay their office whenever they're convicted.

Gary Chambers Jr., spoke with Roland Martin about Landry's outrageous power play that is threatening the rights of Louisiana residents.
