nitrate from dirt

I extract potassium nitrate from soil and purify. This is a time consuming process and not worth the time when it can be purchased easily but it was a great learning experience. One mistake I have seen from other peoples attempts is that straight urine or urea will not make nitrate from this process it has to be changed by micro organisms in the soil over a long period of time. And you can't have rain water washing it away that is why bat caves and old barn floors are good sources. The soil I used here was old soil from under my chicken pen/roost.
