First trailer for Rudolf Nureyev. His Island of Dreams

The Russian/Turkish co-production feature documentary, Rudolf Nureyev. His Island of Dreams, is now in post-production and scheduled for completion early in 2016.

The film employs a mixture of fact and fiction to tell the story of the visits that the legendary ballet dancer made to Turkey between 1980 and 1990.

It uses hitherto-unseen home-video footage taken at the time and combines this with present-day contributions from people who knew Nureyev. In particular his long-time friend Yasemine Pirinccioglu. who helped him stage The Sleeping Beauty in Istanbul, hosted him during his visits and remains the keeper of his Turkish archive. Others include the Italian designer Ezio Frigerio and his wife Franca Squarciapino and the Turkish actor Tevfik Erman Kutlu, designer Zeynep Fadillioglu and ballet dancers Hulya Aksular and Nilay Yesiltepe.

The film is written and directed by Evgenia Tirdatova. The film is produced by Tirdatova and Nurdan Tumbek Tekeoglu and the executive producer is Neil McCartney. Orhan Teleoglu is co-director.
