Why Retired Canadians Shouldn’t Have to Pay Taxes

It’s time we start a serious conversation about the financial reality facing Canadian retirees.
After decades of hard work, contributions, and taxes, Canadians entering retirement should not have to continue paying income tax on the money they already earned and paid into the system.

Retirement income — whether from CPP, OAS, or personal savings — is not new income. It’s deferred income, built from years of payroll deductions, taxes, and responsible financial planning. Taxing that money again is, in essence, double taxation.

Our seniors have already funded the very system they now depend on. They’ve built the infrastructure, paid into employment insurance, supported healthcare, and upheld the tax base for decades. When they finally retire, they deserve peace of mind — not another tax bill.
