New Parental Benefits Rules in Sweden: What You Need to Know!

New rules apply if you want to take parental benefits on days you should not have worked.

Effective April 1, 2025, you will no longer be able to withdraw parental allowance on days you would not have worked without at the same time deducting parental allowance for an associated working day.

To receive parental allowance for working days you must:

✅ Take out parental allowance for a working day directly connected to the non-working days.

✅ Withdraw parental allowance to the same extent as you have waived from work.

💡 Example: If you are usually free on weekends and want to take out full parental allowance for Saturday and Sunday, you also need to take out a full day of parental allowance for Friday or Monday.
The old rules apply until March 31, 2025.
