Notes:

Baptism of the Holy Spirit is when the Holy Spirit baptized you into Jesus (during salvation) (1 Corinthians 12:13). Baptism in the Holy Spirit is when Jesus is baptizing you into the Holy Spirit (during surrender) (Matthew 3:11).

Three Truths About The Holy Spirit
1. The Holy Spirit is a PROMISE from the Father (Acts 1:4)
2. The Holy Spirit is a PETITION of Jesus (John 14:16)
3. The Holy Spirit is a PURPOSE of salvation (Acts 2:38)

Indwelling vs Infilling
1. The indwelling occurs one time, infilling is a repeated experience.
2. The indwelling follows salvation, infilling follows surrender.
3. The indwelling is about possession, infilling is about power.

The Purpose of Tongues:
1. With tongues, we speak to God, not to men (1 Corinthians 14:2).
2. With tongues, we are declaring God’s wonders in unlearned foreign languages (Acts 2:11).
3. With tongues, we praise God (Acts 10:46a; 1 Corinthians 14:16-17).
4. With tongues, we edify ourselves (1 Corinthians 14:4).
5. With tongues, we are praying according to God’s will (Romans 8:26-27).

How to receive this gift?
1. Receive Jesus as your Lord and Savior (John 7:38).
2. Just relax (Acts 2:2).
3. Your choice is involved. The gift must be received. The Holy Spirit will fill you, but you do the speaking.
4. Your faith is needed. Just like any gift of God, it must be received by faith. As you open your mouth, God will fill it (Psalm 81:10). As you release the sounds, believe the Holy Spirit is adding meaning to it.
5. Remove fear that you will speak your own or ‘demonic’ words (Luke 11:13).
6. Don’t give in to the voice of the accuser or scoffers (Acts 2:12).
