FULL STATEMENT: Trump recounts evacuation after shooting during White House Correspondents' Dinner

President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump were evacuated from the White House Correspondents' Dinner on Saturday following reports of a shooting.

Both were uninjured, and no injuries were immediately reported, according to multiple sources. A law enforcement official told The Associated Press that a shooter had opened fire.

Witnesses in the crowd reported hearing what they believed were five to eight shots. Members of the National Guard took up positions inside the building as attendees were allowed to leave but not re-enter.
Those in attendance included Trump, Vice President JD Vance, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, and Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

Sources familiar with the situation told CNN that Vance also made it out of the dinner safely.
