International Collaboration for Whale Shark Research

Georgia Aquarium and Conservation International Partnership

We’re elated to announce today, on International Whale Shark Day, a new collaborative partnership with Conservation International, a non-profit organization which uses an innovative blend of science, policy and partnerships to protect the nature people rely on for food, fresh water, and livelihoods. Georgia Aquarium will partner on conservation projects of interest, starting with ground-breaking research on endangered whale sharks in Indonesia. This research, the first of its kind, will take place in 2017 and will explore the health of whale sharks, which are the largest fish in the ocean. We share with Conservation International the mission of inspiring the public about the ocean in order to help protect our blue planet and all its inhabitants.
