Railroad Crossings of the CSX Chattanooga Sub Part 1

Decided to go ahead and get this one done. Like the one for the CSX S&NA North Sub, the crossings are in no particular order. All subsequent parts will feature other crossings along the line.

The CSX Chattanooga Sub runs southeast out of Nashville, TN to Chattanooga, TN. The line briefly ducks into Alabama to run through Stevenson, where trains from the Norfolk Southern Memphis District East End get on and off the line at to go to/from Chattanooga. Further to the east, it goes back into Tennessee before ducking in Georgia before ducking back into Tennessee in Chattanooga. This line was originally built by the Nashville, Chattanooga, and St. Louis (NC&StL) Railway back in the mid-1800s. Not much survives along the line from the NC&StL's ownership, though at least one crossing signal was originally made by US&S and dates back to the NC&StL. There also used to be a bunch of old US&S block signals from the NC&StL along the line, such as the one seen at Cumberland Street in Cowan, TN, but those have all been replaced by CSX. In 1957, the Louisville & Nashville (L&N) Railroad took over the NC&StL, and quite a bit of crossing equipment can still be found from them, especially on the part of the line to the northwest of Decherd, TN. The L&N then merged with the Seabord Coast Line (SCL) in 1984 and then the SCL merged with the Chesapeake & Ohio Railroad in 1986 to form CSX. As a result, the line has a wide variety of equipment going all the way from the NC&StL and L&N days of the line to the modern signals that CSX installs along the line today, which makes it one of my favorite lines to railfan where the entire line is within a two-hour drive from Huntsville. However, at the same time, the line almost feels like two separate lines in terms of crossing equipment.

From Aedc Road in Decherd, TN northwards to Nashville, TN is where most of the old crossing equipment is, with a lot of incandescent lights, 8 inch lights, mechanical bells, and a few 1980s and 1990s CSX installs, along with a good number of newer CSX installs. However, from Mill Street in Decherd, TN and south to Chattanooga, TN, the line is now all LEDs and e-bells, save for one Modern Industries mechanical bell in Cowan, TN. This line also has one of the last Transport Products Corp. signals installed by the L&N to retain its original Transport Products Corp. 8 inch lights.
