Sleep disorders and their treatment (En)

Dear Sir/Madam,

We regret that we are unable, for the moment, to provide individual answers to the many questions put to us. While we are in the process of getting organised, we are sending you a standard response which covers most of the questions asked.

TRANSDERMAL PATCHES delivering
Valentonin (VLT) and 6-Methoxy-Harmalan (6-MH)
will be available for patients in 2017 (4th quarter)

Thank you for your donations, for purchasing the book and the brochure ("The pineal gland and the Sleep-Wake system. Therapeutic applications"); and your encouragements.

They will help us independently finance the development of the pharmaceutical forms of the patches, so they can be made available to patients as quickly as possible. You can access regular updates on the situation via the Fonds Josefa website.

Dual-compartment patches (delivering 100 micrograms of 6-MH and 400 micrograms of VLT, for Parkinson's and Alzheimer's disease, and 50 micrograms of 6-MH and 200 micrograms of VLT for sleep disorders and nervous breakdowns) will be available in 2017 (4th quarter), as indicated at the bottom of the Fonds Josefa website's homepage.

The 3mg melatonin capsules can be purchased on the Internet, at approximately € 25 for 180 capsules (take one 3mg capsule in the evening at bedtime, to protect your neurons).

In practical terms, the dosage of melatonin in blood plasma, sampled from 1am, which will help assess the secretion of the 3 hormones (MLT, 6-MH and VLT) by the pineal gland, will take a little longer as we need to introduce the dosage method of the melatonin marker (using a method combining mass spectrometry with liquid chromatography, described in our patents) in medical analysis laboratories across the world. This timeframe will not however delay the release of the patches in 2017.

All information and explanations on The Discovery and its Therapeutic Applications can be found in the book and the brochure entitled "The pineal gland and the Sleep-Wake system. Therapeutic applications", for sale on Amazon.

By the end of september 2017, 10 Letters from Pr Henri Joyeux, accompanied by 5 videos co-directed by Pr Jean-Bernard Fourtillan and Pr Henri Joyeux, will focus on the therapeutic applications resulting from the discovery of the Sleep-Wake system:
- The treatment of Alzheimer's disease (Letter no. 138),
- Parkinson's disease (Letter no. 139),
- Jean-Bernard Fourtillan’s interview with James Parkinson and Aloïs Alzheimer (letter no 142, part 1, and letter no 144, part 2),
- Sleep disorders and their treatment (Letter no. 147),
- Nervous breakdowns and their treatment (Letter no. 150),
- All benzodiazepines and the like are narcotics (Letter no. 154)
- Psychosis and their treatment,
- Future potential therapeutic applications.

Information note

What can be done to improve sleep and the mental functions of patients suffering from Alzheimer's disease, pending the release of the VLT and 6-MH patches (scheduled for 4th quarter of 2017) ?

The dual-compartment patches, applied at bedtime and removed in the morning when waking up, which will release 100 micrograms of 6-MH and 400 micrograms of VLT over an 8-hour period, will not be available to patients suffering from neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson's and Alzheimer's, before the 4th quarter of 2017.

In the meantime, administering Clomipramine (Anafranil® and generic drugs), in a dose of one 10mg tablet in the evening at bedtime, can be beneficial to these patients. Neuropsychiatrists have found for many years that the administration of Clomipramine improves sleep and cognition in the elderly and patients suffering from Alzheimer's disease. This therapeutic effect is explained by the fact that this major antidepressant, a leading NRI (Norepinephrine Reuptake Inhibitor), provokes the noradrenergic stimulation of the pinealocytes (pineal gland cell units) which, as a result, increases the production of the 3 pineal hormones (MLT, 6-MH and VLT), thereby improving sleep, alertness and cognition.
