Suzuki DF30 ATS on Waterland 550

After many months of restoration, the boat is finally ready for testing!
The inside still needs a lot of work, but since the season's almost over, we didn't want to wait any longer.

Most videos on Youtube about this engine show it behind a much smaller boat. (14 foot fishing boats tops). So it was a big question how it would perform on a much heavier boat (5.50m / ~19 ft long). And it turned out great! Most of the footage shows it with 2 adults and 2 small children on board.

I understand that in the USA, great fishing spots can be really far away, so a 30 HP engine on a relatively tiny boat makes sense. In The Netherlands, with much smaller water masses, this would be regarded as waaaay overpowered. Even for a boat like this, most folks drive it with 15HP four stroke.

In the past, we had a 20HP Johnson 2-stroke on this boat, with stern-mounted steering, manual start, and - unfortunately - a long shaft model, which was, unbeknownst to us as the time, completely wrong. It drank more fuel than 100 Russians but provided only slow speed, much smoke and lots of noise.

We are very happy with this Suzuki 30HP 4stroke engine!
