Driver's Eye View (Two) - South Devon Railway (England) – Totnes Riverside to Buckfastleigh

Our train has just meandered along the pretty branch line from Buckfastleigh to Totnes Riverside, built to allow heritage trains to serve Totnes via a new footbridge over the River Dart without incurring the costs and complications resulting from South Devon Railway trains using the British-Rail station, although it was interesting to see the heritage trains using the same platform as their main-line cousins between 5th April 1985 and the 2nd September 1987.
Totnes Riverside station utilised the buildings from Toller station on the now closed Bridport branch.

We watch GWR 2-6-2T small ‘Prairie’ No.5542 run round its train for the trip back to Buckfastleigh, before climbing aboard to enjoy more views of the River Dart from a vantage point normally only available to the footplate crew.

The railway is a standard gauge line, (1,435 mm - 4 ft 8 1⁄2 in) located in the South, West of England, easily accessible from the A38 Devon Expressway or by main-line GWR trains from London and the West Country, regular CrossCountry trains from the North and Midlands also serve Totnes.
