John Monkman Place To Be feat. Tailor

I’m excited to be returning to Anjunadeep with two new tracks: Place To Be featuring Tailor, and Modwonk.

It’s been over a decade since my first release on the label – Open Frontier on Anjunadeep 06 – and since then I’ve shared the Komplex EP, remixed Eli & Fur, and contributed to various compilations including Anjunadeep 14, 15, and Reflections 09.

Place To Be started to take shape after playing Printworks for one of Anjunadeep’s events. The energy of the night really stayed with me – when I got home, I began writing the strings, trying to bottle that feeling. Fast forward to summer in Ibiza, Rob (Tailor) messaged saying he was around and wanted to pop into the studio. We hit it off instantly, and a few days later he sent over a vocal that completely floored me. There are two versions – the original is more club-focused, while the string mix leans into the emotion and orchestration from that post-Printworks haze.

Modwonk was one of those surprise creations – I was supposed to be working on something else, but opened a fresh session and this strange, melodic, UK-bass-tinged idea just poured out. I followed it all the way through.
