How I Use Elgato HD60 X on Linux Without OBS (Zero Lag Playback)

This video showcases a custom low-latency Elgato capture card playback setup on Linux.

The goal of this setup is to provide smooth, real-time video and audio monitoring from Elgato capture cards without relying on OBS. This is useful for console gaming, capture card monitoring, dual-PC setups, and low-latency preview workflows on Linux.

The playback is built using a Bash script that directly connects to V4L2 video devices and PipeWire audio sources. It is designed to work alongside OBS without audio or device conflicts.

What is used in this setup:

* Elgato HD60 X capture card
* Linux with PipeWire (PulseAudio compatible)
* mpv for low-latency video playback
* FFmpeg / V4L2 for video capture
* pactl for audio routing
* Bash scripting

Key features:

* Low-latency video playback
* 1080p at 60 FPS support
* Windowed playback mode
* Multiple Elgato capture card detection
* Clean audio source selection (Elgato only)
* Audio works even when OBS is open
* No fullscreen or OBS dependency

Why this exists:
OBS is excellent for streaming and recording, but it is not always ideal for real-time preview due to added latency and setup overhead. This script provides a simple and fast alternative for direct capture card playback on Linux.

Tested on:

* Linux with PipeWire
* Elgato HD60 X
* mpv and FFmpeg (latest versions)
